Fifty Mile Canyon
I'm heading up Nine Mile Canyon again tomorrow, and I'm a little nervous about going up there alone for some reason--probably just because I'll be so far away from civilization. I'm probably going to do a lot of hiking, and tons of driving. The road is 50 miles long, all dirt, and I have about 35 or 40 stops to make along the way. It's going to be a long day. It's still elk season, so hopefully if I run into any car trouble or something like that, I'll be able to get some help.
I've got datasheets for 15 benchmarks printed out, though I doubt I'll find even half of them. I've also got mile-by-mile directions to all the petroglyphs and old indian dwellings. I expect to take so many pictures that I'm sure my camera battery will die while I'm out there.

Ok, you have seriously got to get a cell phone...
If you want to take one of my old ones you can still make emergency calls with a credit card # I believe...
You can have one of my old ones if you want to activate it...

Only if you have a satelite phone, cause AT&T and Verizon sure don't work in the middle of nowhere.;)

Heheh...yeah, I was 50 miles from the nearest town, and in the bottom of a deep canyon...no chance in hell of getting a signal. There were a lot of people around, though, so I wouldn't have had much trouble getting help.
I would never buy a cell phone, for the sole reason that my god damned mother-in-law would call it constantly to get ahold of Traci. It's bad enough that she calls my house 4 or 5 times daily--I'd really hate it if she could call us anywhere.
