Survival
For some reason, I decided that I wanted to learn how to snare a rabbit. So while searching the web, I found the Rocky Mountain Survival Group's Primitive Wilderness Survival Guide. It's really just a bunch of newsgroup posts that somebody had edited and organized, but it's got some really useful information about primitive survival. Anyway, it's something I hope I never have to put to use, but it might be fun to do it just for the hell of it.

Man...
This weekend has been boring. I spent most of yesterday doing a little shopping and a lot of house cleaning.
Today, I pretty much sat on my ass and did nothing, except for an exciting little 4-wheeling adventure my wife and I went on. I decided to find an old trail that I had been on several years ago while deer hunting. It was actually an old railroad bed, with railroad ties and rails sticking up out of the dirt sometimes. The trail had been badly washed out since I was on it last time, so it was rockier and more full of ruts. We came to a point where whoever built the railroad had cut through the middle of a hill, and they didn't leave any clearance on either side, and the walls were very steep. There came a point where there was a huge rock in the way, so people on 4-wheelers had just gone around it. It didn't look like a truck had been through in a long time, but I was pretty sure my truck could go around it. The trail got really narrow right by this boulder, and it slanted steeply to the right. My wife got out and spotted me so I didn't scrape alongside the rock, but I didn't want to move too far up the side of the hill for fear that I might roll my truck. Well, the hill was much steeper than I thought, and I actually started sliding toward the rock, and I thought I was gonna roll my truck no matter what I did. So I gunned it just a little and cranked my wheel so I was pointing downhill, and just barely missed hitting the rock, and I managed not to roll my truck over. :) It was pretty scary, and I had to hang my arm out my window and hang on just so I didn't fall to the passenger side of the truck.
It was a pretty fun drive, and there were some obstacles that I probably shouldn't have even attempted in a vehicle as big as mine (a Jeep would have been more suitable). I did find a really cool fossil while out 4-wheelin', too. It's a round rock that had split in half, and there is something fossilized inside it, but I'm not sure what. It might be some sort of plant, but then again, it might be some weird animal or sea creature. The type of shale it was in usually has plant and sea life fossilized in it, 'cause I've found a lot of stuff like that around here. Maybe I'll scan it in tomorrow and see if anybody can identify it... :)

Spankin' New Layout
How could I not comment on this? Filespanker.com has a new layout that kicks all sort of ass. When I do a layout, there's usually not much to think about: left column, middle column, and right column. But Mike definitely put a lot of thought into his new layout. It looks rather simple, but with all that overlapping- and intertwining-looking stuff (with no CSS positioning, even!), if you were to turn on table borders it'd be difficult to follow unless you're a HTML guru (like myself). :)

Mike from filespanker.com wrote a PHP script for me that lets me update the right column with goings-on in the E/N community, without having to manually update and FTP a text file. Thanks Mike. :)

eXTReMe Tracking
Extreme Tracking seems to have gotten much more accurate in the past few days. It not only resolves my IP address now (206.40.232.*), the reports are much more recent than they used to be. When I used to check my stats, the reports were several hours old, and now they're up-to-the-minute. Woohoo!

New Layout
After hours of working on different layouts, I settled on this one. Why? Who knows... It's probably really gay, but Assman assures me otherwise. :)
If you have an opinion and you give a shit, leave a comment.
Oh, and by the way, Netscape sucks a big cock. For some reason, it wouldn't honor my width="100%" or | attribute. So the links to the left were appearing in the middle of the page, instead of as far to the left as possible. The only way it works is to make the nested table in the center of the page 100% wide, instead of 400 pixels wide like I wanted to.
And I blatantly stole the "E/N Watch" idea, partially from Inferno and Rick.

Honk Honk
For some reason, a lot of people like to honk their horns when they drive down my street. Of course, my street is one of the busiest in town, so maybe people like to honk their horns all the time, and I just hear it more since there's more traffic. I've always wanted to sit on my front porch with a .22 and blast away at people (or their cars, rather) who needlessly honk as they drive by, but I'd hate to get in trouble for it. Now I'm thinking a paintball or pellet gun would work better, and get me in less trouble. Unfortunately, there aren't any good sniper positions available for me to conceal myself.

Movies
I watched Practical Magic tonight with my wife, and it wasn't as vile as I expected it to be. Contrary to how most guys feel, I can't stand Sandra Bullock, and I don't like Nicole Kidman much either. I wouldn't say it was a good movie, but it definitely wasn't horrible.
I took the movie reviews section down (well, I removed the link anyway), since I haven't updated it since I made the damn section. I've probably rented well over 100 DVDs between then and now, and I've only reviewed 4 movies.

Hey, baby.
My wife had her first doctor's appointment regarding the pregnancy today, and they had to do an ultrasound because the doctor couldn't pick up a heartbeat otherwise. Here are a couple of stills they took of it:
Heh...speaking of babies, I heard that Solo is wanting to have children soon...lots and lots of children. :)

Site Design
Lately I've been trying to make a new design for this page, but I can't come up with anything that I like enough to keep up for a long time. There are only so many ways I can rearrange this layout and change the colors, and it's definitely getting old. :)
It sure sucks to have the Funky Bunch down...I miss reading THoR and Sloppy Rage. Hopefully Marky Mark gets 'em back up soon.

E/N Convention
Shit...they (whoever "they" are) changed the damn date. So now I'm not sure if I'm even going. It would be a pain in the ass for me and my wife to change days off at work. I already had reservations, so I'd have to change those, too. Fuck, fuck, fuck.

Standing around all day in 100? F weather wearing a penguin suit is definitely not my idea of fun, but Mike's wedding was really nice (you missed out, Ty).? :)
I'm staying at my bro-in-law's house tonight, 'cause my wife talked me into not driving home this late. I'd much rather be home now, sleeping like a log. Unfortunately, my wife also talked me into going to Hogle Zoo tomorrow with Jorge and a bunch of other Sanchez's, so it doesn't look like I'll be home 'til tomorrow evening. :(

Man, I'm Tired
I've been away from home for the last couple days, and I didn't get back until 3:00 a.m. last night. I worked in the office Tuesday, then had a rehearsal dinner for Mike Marshall's wedding that evening. I stayed at my bro-in-law's house that night, then worked in the office again yesterday. Last night was Mike's bachelor party, and since I live in Utah, it was pretty tame. :) We went to the Utah Fun Dome in SLC and played mini golf, laser tag, arcade games, then went out to eat at Applebee's. It was a fun night, but I didn't get back to my bro-in-law's house in Provo until about 1:20 a.m. My wife thought I should have stayed up there, 'cause she gets paranoid about me driving the canyon at night (because of all the deer, one of which I almost hit). But I decided it would be fun driving home that late at night, and I didn't get home 'til 3:00 a.m. So having to get up for work this morning really sucked a fat one.

The Pain, The Pain!
I think I broke my hand a couple weeks ago, and it's hurting now worse than it has in the last little while. I was riding my bike on a dirt road, and I was in the middle of a rut. The rut ended not too far ahead, so I started pedaling faster so I could do a jump out of it (like you would off a ramp). Well, I jumped out of it, but when I came down, my front tire was slightly sideways, and while trying to regain my balance after I landed, I started going sideways through the ruts on the road, so it bounced the hell out of me and then I went flying over the handlebars. I came down with one hand in front of me and did a faceplant. My hand got bent back the wrong way, and I thought I might have broken it, but eventually the pain subsided and it felt normal again. I just figured it was a sprain, and if it ever got worse, I would make a doctor's appointment. Now it looks like I'll have to go in for x-rays and all that fun stuff.
It's been a long time since I last got bucked off a bicycle, so I felt like a stupid little kid when it happened. And I'll bet I looked pretty stupid too...what I wouldn't give to have the whole thing on videotape. :) I'd definitely have to send it in to Bob Saget.

Gun Control
Hahah...people in favor of strict gun control always crack me up. I've never heard a sound argument in favor of gun control, and this one is no exception: "Criminals account for a relatively small percentage of shooting incidents. Such incidents are much more frequently related to domestic quarrels, alcohol or other drug usage and, of course, childhood accidents." Now, aren't "shooting incidents" that involve "domestic quarrels, alcohol or other drug usage" considered criminal? If somebody is psychotic enough to go on a drunken rampage and shoot his/her spouse, I doubt gun control laws would stop it from happening. If nothing else, baseball bats are still legal.
I'm all for gun safety (trigger locks, etc.), but I think more strict control of who can possess firearms won't help, because somebody who's willing to attempt armed robbery or murder won't hesitate to commit a lesser crime like illegally possessing a gun.

Vegas, Baby!
C'mon, I'm trying to recruit people to go to the e/n convention in Las Vegas on August 25-27th. I don't have any details other than the dates right now, but at least if you can come, you can start planning now. So come, damnit!

Bike Ride
I think I'm going to take a mountain bike ride on this trail tomorrow morning. The only problem is, it's almost 2:30 a.m. now, so I won't get much sleep before I head out at 7:00 in the morning. :)
Someday, I'm going to take this trail, which I've driven several times in my truck. The railroad trestle mentioned in the trail description is the one that Ty, me, and several friends plan on dropping some TVs and computers off of (it's gotta be about 200 feet above ground), but we've never actually gotten around to it.

Schtuff
Woohoo! Ty and I are going to Vegas from August 25-27th. We're going partially for the e/n convention thing, to which Solo and some peeps from badassmofo.com are going. It'll be cool to meet some of them in person, but we'll probably spend more time gambling and taking in the attractions than drinking and chummin' with the fellas. And the reason for that, of course, is that the womenfolk are going along with us. :)
Today seemed like a big waste. I went water skiing with some friends at Joe's Valley Reservoir, but I had a bigass headache, so I didn't ski...instead, I just got dragged behind the boat in a tube. :) Anyway, our friends were supposed to pick us up at 10:00 in the morning, but my wife and I didn't even get out of bed 'til 10:00. So we hurried and got ready, then they called and said they'd be here in a bit. They finally showed up around 12:30, but my wife and her brother had to be back into town by 5:00 at the latest, so we didn't have much time at the lake to have a lot of fun. We got back into town at 5:30, and I immediately went to sleep while my wife went to her parent's scrapbook store to help out with some stuff. I had only planned on taking a short nap, but I woke up at 10:00, and had that disoriented feeling you get when you sleep way longer than you expected. So I laid in bed for a few minutes, then went out for a Dr. Pepper. It was a pretty uneventful day, but relaxing nonetheless.

APC
A Perfect Circle is now my favorite band of all time. I've been listening to them non-stop for the past few days, and it's truly badass music. Maynard uses way different vocal styles than he does with Tool. Just because it's so different that what I'm used to hearing come out of his mouth, I think I like better. My favorite songs are 3 Libras and Thinking of You.
The lyrics to APC's songs don't flow like most bands'. With most bands, the verses are made up of single sentences, and a sentence makes up a single line. But with APC, their words don't usually form complete sentences, nor are there even lines or verses. Yet the lyrics make sense, as much as any band's lyrics make sense, anyhow.
It's difficult to describe (especially when you're as drunk as I am now), so just go buy the album and find out for yourself. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

You know, I never noticed it until now, but NetFlix has quite a good selection of pornos. Hopefully it's not that softcore Playboy sorta stuff...I wanna see some hardcore. :)

Well Well Well
Since I keep this page partially as a journal for me to look back on, I guess I'll continue to post, though nobody but me will see it until I put my site back up. :)
I got into an argument with my mother- and father-in-law last weekend during our camping trip. My father-in-law asked me if I would bring his generator home in my truck because he didn't have enough room in his, so I agreed. I wanted to load his generator in my truck before I loaded all my camping gear, so I wouldn't have to wait for him to get home and help me unload it before I could unload all my stuff. So my wife told him that we were ready to load it, and he said he wanted to slide the tip-out on his trailer back in before he unplugged the generator. So while I waited for him to do that, he dawdled around by sweeping out his trailer, and doing tons of other little things that could have waited until after we loaded the generator. So after about an hour and a half of waiting, my wife asked her mom if they were ready to load the generator yet, and she got pissed off at my wife, and started grumbling something like, "I can't sit down for 2 minutes without you two bugging me." Well, that pissed me off, since I was doing them a favor, and they acted like we were being a burden on them. So I told her to shut the fuck up and called her a bitch, which she totally deserved, and of course, her husband got pissed off at me, which just pissed me off even more. So they ended up taking the generator home in her Explorer, which confounded the hell out of me, because if they had room, why the fuck did they go to the bother of asking me? It's been 4 days, and I'm still pissed off about the whole thing, and they've been acting as if nothing happened. They just bought a scrapbooking store, and wanted me to do a website for them (free of charge) which I was willing to do, but now I'm not going to do jack shit for them after seeing what happened after I agreed to do that favor for them.
Phew...that was entirely too long. :) I've been pretty much dependent on Extreme Tracking for a long time, since they serve up my site stats in an easy-to-read manner, but it only tracks hits to my main page. Since I don't really have a main page right now, I've been checking my actual raw referrer logs to see what's goin' on, and it's funny to see what kind of search enging refers I'm getting. It's stuff like nude anorexic women and nads gel and loneranger toys and how to fix headphones.
Now that I've got my truck back, I've been trying to tame the jungle that is my back yard. I've already taken 2 loads to the dump in the last 2 days, and it's only been tree branches that I cut down several months ago. I've still got a forest of weeds left to cut down, then I've got 3 tree stumps to yank out, then I've gotta till the ground and add some manure and sand and all that shit, because the soil is pure clay. It's not too great for growing a garden in.
I've been working on making a ham radio page to add to this site. I had one before, but it was pretty lame, so I took it down after a while. This time, it's going to be pretty nice. I've already got the layout done, and I've got a few of the sections done (such as a "ten-codes" page and a list of local police and repeater frequencies).

Fack
Being away from my computer and the internet for the past several days seems to have done something to me. Here I sit at the computer, and I realize how fucking sick of it all I've become. So I'm taking a little break. It might last a week, or it might last a year. See you when I get back.

A New World Record
Yes, Theseus was right. I think this was a new record for me not changing my layout over the course of almost 2 months (May 10th was the last redesign). And as usual, this new layout is just a variation of my Generic UncleDennis.com Layout?. :) I think I'll eventually add a graphic or something just above the news, since it looks a little bare up there.

APC
I ordered A Perfect Circle's album from Media Play last week (only because I had a gift certificate there), and it got here today. I've only listened to a few songs, but I already like it a lot. MJK is just a badass, and it doesn't matter what band he's with. Tool is probably my second-favorite band, so it's no surprise APC will probably be my third. :)

Bleh
This weekend has gone by too fast. I can barely remember what I did this weekend, but it doesn't seem like I did everything I wanted to do.
Even though I got a new sending unit for my temperature guage in my truck, it still doesn't seem to be working, or so the mechanic told me. He said the guage shows the engine running hot, but it's really running at normal temperature. He suggested that I get an aftermarket guage just to make sure, because if the engine overheats and I don't catch it before it's done damage, he won't cover it under warranty. So I bought a new guage today and tried to install it. First of all, whoever designed the guage should be shot. The guage consists of a long metal tube filled with ether, and when the ether heats up and expands, it causes the needle on the guage to go up. There is a large threaded nut on the end of the sensor that screws into a hole in the engine block, and since the metal tube can't be disconnected from the guage, you have to put the entire thing (the sensor and 7/8" nut) through the firewall. So I had to drill a 1" hole in my firewall to accomodate the nut, but the metal tube is less than 1/4" in diameter, so I'm left with all that space to fill up with a rubber grommet. And I had to borrow a 3/8" drill (one of those big suckers with 2 handholds on it) and a 1" drill bit from my father-in-law. So anyhow, I finally got all that done, and I tried to remove one of the metal plugs that was threaded into a hole on my thermostat housing so I could screw the sensor in, and the damned thing was stripped. I can't get the plug out, and now I can't screw it back in tightly. So I can't start my truck because as soon as the thermostat opens up, it'll shoot antifreeze all over the place. Tomorrow, I have to go buy another thermostat housing and gasket, and try again.
Each year for the 4th of July, my family and my wife's family have a barbeque over at my mom's house. So I've bought steaks and all the fixin's I need to make daquiris, and I'm really looking forward to it all. Last year was pretty fun, but I could hardly stand up straight when it was all over. :)
This Thursday through Sunday is my wife's family reunion, and they're having it up Huntington Canyon (as usual). So I'm going to buy a shitload (which is probably equivalent to about 20) fishing lures, since I lose them so often, and I'll spend the entire time fishing. I may even get adventurous and go on a bike ride or a hike.
